Trauma, continued...

"When am I going to stop feeling like this?"

We have to rethink what it means to heal from trauma. Trauma doesn't go away once we've stopped thinking about the event or after years of not reacting to its affects. Trauma leaves traces, in our bodies and in our brains, just like all of our experiences.

The key to finding peace post-trauma is to find a way to integrate it into your life. Believe me, I know this sucks! But no amount of wishing it away or stuffing it down will make it go away.

One way to do this is to ask yourself "How did this experience shape who I am?" Reflection is possible... sit still with it...Who are you now? And, you may be tempted to say "I am broken" You are NOT broken! What else? You are 100 hundred other things. You are INTUITIVE, BRAVE, EMPATHETIC, WISE, STRONG, IN TUNE, A HEALER... if you are like me you are FUNNY (that's a whole 'nuther post)

What you will see is not broken-ness, it's strength! The very fact that you are here, willing to open up, is remarkable! Above all, remember this - Your responses to trauma are normal. Trauma is a normal response to an abnormal situation!

YOU ARE NOT BROKEN. You are WHOLE and you are EXQUISITE
